Dishing on TV & Movies

This is a Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why that is about a girl that commits suicide.  Before she dies she records on 7 analog tapes on the 13 reasons she killed herself.  Each side has a name and why they are one of the reasons she died. The main character is Clay.  He worked with Hannah at the local theater.  Hannah is the girl who committed suicide and who's voice you hear on the tapes.  He received the tapes and was given the instructions.  Unfortunately for him, he is of the era that has no idea what a tape player is.  Luckily his dad has a boom box he could borrow, which he broke, so he borrowed a Walkman from his friend Tony.  On the tapes he is given instructions as to where to go to start the story.  He hears Hannah tell why she feels Justin is one of the reasons why she killed herself.   It is obvious that Clay is not the first person to hear the tapes with all the reaction people have towards him at school....

I have read a bunch of write ups on movies saying bring tissues and I find out that they are not needed.  With this movie, you need a box.  I ended up crying so much I really wished I had brought at least one tissue.  The story starts out with the dad looking and acting super depressed talking to someone on the phone.  Then he is seen outside plowing the snow off his driveway like a robot.  No feelings, nothing.  He goes to his neighbor's house for gas and then back to his house to find a letter.  There is parts of the past thrown in explaining why the dad is the way he is and about his family life.  How his father was abusive to his mom and when he goes to get help from his church leader, he gets beat pretty bad by his father.  The next thing he does is unimaginable, but understandable from his young mind.  You get to meet his family and get told the reason his wife and children call God, Papa.  Once he finds the letter, he s...
